Gump Worsley, won the Calder trophy in 1953 for NHL rookie of the year despite his poor record of 13-29-8, a testament to his extraordinary play. The New York Rangers sent him to the minors the following year marking the only time in NHL history the Calder winner never played a game the year after winning the award. Worsley later went on to win 4 Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadiens.
