Jacques Plante, won 5 consecutive Stanley Cups and Vezina Trophy's to start his career. No doubt one of the best goalies in NHL history, Plante had a major influence on the goalie position. In 1959, Plante was hit by a shot in the face. He went to the dressing room and came back to play with the first goalie mask in NHL history. The Montreal Canadiens would go unbeaten in 18 games after that. Plante was also the first to stop the puck for his defenseman behind the net, raise his arm to signal icing and perfect the cutting down angles, staying squared to the shooter stand up goalie style.
