Johnny Bucyk, was nicknamed the "Chief" because a Boston cartoonist mistook his dark features for a native Canadian. The name stuck after that. In 1957, Bucyk was traded from the Detroit Red Wings to the Boston Bruins. He would play 21 seasons in Boston setting a number of Bruins records at the time as well being the 4th leading scorer in NHL history at the time of his retirement.
