Red Kelly, was 20 years old when he joined a Detroit Red Wings full of stars such as Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. In 1954 he won the first ever James Norris Memorial Trophy awarded to the league's most outstanding defenseman. Kelly retired in 1960, when Detroit traded him to the New York Rangers. He decided to return only if he played on the Toronto Maple Leafs and in a forward position. He became a successful forward with Toronto.
